  • Things That Make Me Happy

    1. My scarf. I made it last week, and I don't take it off much. It has been muy comforting to me this week and keeps my neck mighty warm. And for some reason, it smells like strawberry shortcake. Figure that one out. (And when you do, fill me in.)

    2. Music - Jason Mraz is still rocking my iTunes. But DMB and Patty Griffin are currently a close 2nd and 3rd.

    3. Pomegranate seeds - These little babies are good on their own or in just about anything: salad, dessert, yogurt... and the list goes on. Taking the time to remove the seeds from the fruit, however, does not make me happy.

    4. Lavender and orange essential oils - Kristy gave me a combination of the two for my birthday. Sometimes I just dab a little on my wrists and neck and relax the stressful days away. When my Tide(R) runs out, I will be making my own laundry detergent (a project I've been wanting to try for some time now). I recently purchased both lavender and orange essential oils for the detergent. I hope it works. That would be fantastic!

    5. Little Caesar's $5 pizzas. - Because I'm cheap. And because game day isn't game day without a slice (or two) of pizza.

    7. Getting out of the blue emails from my dearest friends. I miss you.

    8. Anthology - While in Madison a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this fantastic store filled with handmade trinkets, wrapping paper, Christmas ornaments, and jewelry. I wish I could've bottled it up and brought it home with me. I was too sick to shop that day, but rest assured, after Christmas, I will find my way back to this shop. In the meantime, I will dream of all things boldly colorful and vintage inspired.

    9. Nalgene Bottles - What a great way to eliminate plastic waste!

    10. Memories of days in a warmer climate. I'm still getting over last year's snow. I'm so not ready for this year's winter. We're only 1 week in, and I'm already wishing Spring an early return.

    11. The dancing teenager who lives on the very busy corner of Centerway and Milton. Every once in a while, we get to watch him shake his groove thang to... well, nothing really. Music isn't actually playing during these dance-capades. Jon got to watch him scadoodle across the street one time. While many people probably laugh at him, he makes me happy. I'm thankful for his spirit. I'd take a picture, but I don't want to exploit him. We'll keep him for ourselves, thank you. (And besides, even if I did want to take a picture, I'd have to put the camera on the "action" setting. He REALLY breaks it down.)

How do you get seeds out of a pomegranate?  I get a big bowl of water, open up the fruit, then submerge it in the bowl, and gently coax the seeds out.  The membranes float to the top and the seeds are at the bottom.  Have you tried that?  Oh, and I've seen Martha Stewart just cut it open and bang the living daylights out of it with a wooden spoon (on the uncut side).  One for when you feel nice and the other when you're having a bad day.
